The Prome Kingdom, also known as the Hanthawaddy Kingdom, was an important political entity in Lower Burma, rich in trade and cultural exchanges. During the 16th century, the Taungoo Dynasty emerged as a powerful force capable of unifying the various warring states in Myanmar. In 1542, General Bayinnaung, a remarkable military leader of the Taungoo Dynasty, directed the campaign against Prome, successfully overcoming its defenses through strategic warfare and superior troop numbers.

The siege of Prome was characterized by its prolonged nature, showcasing the Taungoo military tactics and organization. After intense confrontations, the soldiers loyal to the Taungoo Dynasty breached the city's walls, leading to the capitulation of Prome’s leaders. This victory gave the Taungoo control over important trade routes and resources, strengthening their military and economic power in the region.

Following the fall of Prome, the Taungoo Dynasty would go on to expand further, eventually capturing additional territories and asserting control over all of Burma by the late 16th century. This expansion marked the beginning of a golden age for the Taungoo, known for cultural and economic prosperity, as well as advancements in Buddhism, architecture, and the arts.
