The First Battle of Uji was the opening engagement of the Genpei War, a pivotal conflict in late 12th-century Japan between the Taira and Minamoto clans. It unfolded near the Uji River, where Minamoto no Yorimasa assembled troops to oppose the advancing forces of Taira no Kiyomori, who were seeking to consolidate their power.
