The Tham Luang cave rescue captivated the world as twelve boys from the Moo Pa Academy football team and their coach, Ekkapol Chantawong, became trapped in a cave in Chiang Rai province, Thailand. They entered the cave on June 23, 2018, and were caught by rising floodwaters that blocked their exit. After failing to locate them for several days, the Thai authorities finally received assistance from international diving experts. Divers navigated treacherous underwater passages, completing the first successful extraction on July 8. Over the course of three days, all thirteen individuals were rescued.

The rescue operation involved a multinational team, including divers from several countries, Thai Navy SEALs, and volunteers, who worked against time and challenging conditions. It required strategic planning and immense courage as rescuers faced strong currents and limited visibility. Unfortunately, during this complex rescue effort, Petty Officer First Class Saman Gunan tragically died due to lack of oxygen while returning from delivering supplies to the trapped group. His sacrifice underscored the risks involved in the operation.

On July 10, 2018, with the last group of boys and their coach successfully extracted from the cave, the operation concluded. The rescued group was taken to the hospital for medical evaluations and treatment. Their safe return garnered overwhelming joy and celebrations across Thailand and beyond, showcasing global solidarity in the face of adversity.
