Delta Air Lines Flight 1141 was a scheduled domestic flight that met with disaster shortly after departing from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The aircraft, a Boeing 727, was scheduled to fly to Salt Lake City, Utah. During the takeoff sequence, the captain attempted to abort the takeoff due to the aircraft's configuration being incorrect—specifically, the slats were not extended as required for safe takeoff. The crew realized too late that their acceleration was retained, which ultimately resulted in the plane not achieving the appropriate takeoff speed.

Upon aborting the takeoff, Flight 1141 veered off the runway and collided with an embankment just beyond the runway. The aircraft then caught fire, leading to a catastrophic situation for all on board. Out of the 108 passengers and crew members, 14 were killed, and an additional 27 were injured as they evacuated the flaming wreckage.
