Ascended the throne in the early 10th century and maintained a relatively stable regime during a period of fragmentation and political turmoil known as the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Focused on military campaigns against rival states and implemented various administrative reforms to strengthen central authority. His reign contributed to the eventual unification of China under the Song dynasty.
