Conducted a mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, on June 17, 2015. This attack resulted in the deaths of nine individuals who were attending a Bible study session. Roof was arrested the following day and later charged with multiple counts of murder and hate crimes. In 2017, he was sentenced to death for his actions in federal court and received additional life sentences in state court. His motives were tied to white supremacist beliefs.
