Acted as a center and was part of the legendary Punch Line with Maurice Richard and Toe Blake. Led the Canadiens to three Stanley Cup championships in 1944, 1946, and 1953. After retiring as a player, served as a coach for various teams, including the junior team in Montreal. Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966.
