Born in 1922, a Brazilian composer who contributed significantly to contemporary classical music. Education in music began at the Conservatório Dramático e Musical de São Paulo, followed by studies in aesthetics in Paris. Developed a unique style characterized by the incorporation of elements from Brazilian folk music. In 1958, founded the Música Nova group, which promoted avant-garde music in Brazil. Achievements include numerous compositions across various genres, including orchestral works and chamber music. Served as a teacher and mentor to many musicians, influencing a generation of composers in Brazil and beyond.
