John of Gaunt was a member of the Plantagenet dynasty and a son of King Edward III. His influence extended through his marriage to Blanche of Lancaster, consolidating power and land. His lineage led to the establishment of the House of Lancaster, which played an integral role in the Wars of the Roses. Died in 1399, leaving a substantial political legacy.
