Graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Served as a law clerk for Justice William J. Brennan Jr. on the U.S. Supreme Court. Worked as a federal prosecutor in the District of Columbia and was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Nominated by President Barack Obama to the Supreme Court in 2016, but the nomination was not considered by the Senate. Became the 86th United States Attorney General in 2021 under President Joe Biden, overseeing the Department of Justice.
