Ruled as king from 1567 to 1608 during a tumultuous period marked by internal challenges and external invasions. Seonjo faced the Japanese invasions of Korea, known as the Imjin War, which began in 1592 and lasted until 1598. The administration worked to rally support and organize resistance against the invading forces. In response to the invasions, Seonjo appointed several key military leaders, most notably Yi Sun-sin, known for his naval victories against Japan. The war profoundly affected the kingdom's social and political landscape, leading to significant military reforms and changes in governance.
