The Muromachi period experienced cultural developments, including the rise of Noh theater and the tea ceremony, although the emperor's direct influence on these developments remained limited. The internal conflicts of the time often overshadowed the emperor's position, yet the imperial court continued to uphold the traditions of Japanese governance.
