Born in 1937, served as a colonel in the Soviet Air Force and held key engineering roles. Participated in the Soyuz 21 mission in 1976 as a cosmonaut, spending almost a month aboard the Salyut 5 space station. Contributed to the development of various aerospace projects during and after flight career. Engaged in research and development within the aerospace industry post-missions, advancing technology in the field.

Received the Medal of Honor in 2005 for his heroism and selflessness during the war. Later moved to California, where he lived until his death in 2015.
