The Battle of Hürtgen Forest commenced as U.S. forces launched an offensive against entrenched German troops in rugged terrain on the Western Front. Designed to secure a pathway to the Ruhr industrial region, the fight was characterized by difficult weather and challenging conditions. Soldiers faced not only enemy fire but also dense forests, mud, and rain, making for a grueling combat experience. This prolonged confrontation would ultimately evolve into the second-longest battle in U.S. Army history, lasting from 1944 to 1945.
