The objective was to keep a ball in play over a raised net, and the game featured a scoring system with multiple players on each team. This innovative game captured the attention of YMCA members and was soon renamed volleyball due to its unique style of play that involved volleying the ball back and forth, giving it a distinctive character and appeal.
