This brutal act occurred amidst the wider backdrop of the Bangladesh Liberation War, where tensions between West and East Pakistan escalated. The targeting of the Hindu community was part of a broader campaign of ethnic and religious cleansing against those perceived as supporting the independence movement. The massacre on this day is one of the numerous atrocities committed during the conflict.
