Earthquake Devastates Inwa, Former Capital
A massive earthquake reached 8.5 on the Richter scale, causing widespread destruction in Inwa, the former capital of the Konbaung Dynasty in present-day Myanmar. The earthquake struck in the early morning hours, most intensely affecting the architectural heritage of the city, including the grand teak monasteries that defined its skyline.
