Roger Williams faced banishment from the Massachusetts Bay Colony due to his controversial views on religious tolerance and governance. His disagreement with the Puritan leadership arose from his belief in the separation of church and state, as well as his criticism of the colony's treatment of Indigenous peoples. The decision was rooted in conflict over religious doctrine and colonial policy.
