Foundation of Nombre de Jesús in Magellan Strait

Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa led a naval expedition to establish Nombre de Jesús, the first of two Spanish settlements in the Strait of Magellan. This settlement was part of a broader mission to claim and colonize territories in Patagonia, enhancing Spain's influence in South America.
