Ioan P. Culianu

Born in Romania, this historian and philosopher specialized in the study of the history of religion, the relationship between magic and religion, and Renaissance humanism. Culianu received a PhD from the University of Chicago and contributed significantly to the understanding of the occult in early modern Europe. As a scholar, he published several influential works, notably examining the intersections of science and religion. His academic career was cut short when he was murdered in 1991 in Chicago, leaving behind a legacy in the field of religious studies.
